As part of its monthly screening of documentaries under "Point Of View", Documentary Circle Of Hyderabad, in association with Alliance Francaise and Goethe Zentrum, is screening "Leave Nothing But Footprints" on 4th December at the Goethe Zentrum premises, 5:30pm onwards. This 36-minute English documentary is directed by Sanjay Barnela.
Tourism, with its capacity to fill the nation's coffers but also cause irrepairable damage to the ecology, is both a boon and a bane. Popular tourism, though providing jobs to innumerable natives of tourist places, leaves behind a trail of garbage, lack of basic amenities, and random constructions by industrial sharks to woo tourists. It is only a question of how much revenue can be earned, with no regard to the irreversible damage to our natural treasures.
Sanjay Barnela's film "Leave Nothing But Footprints" is a bold attempt to study the contrast between mainstream tourism and eco-tourism. It travels across Ladakh, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim, and captures the ill-effects of popular tourism. It promotes eco-tourism as the cure to the the flip sides of popular tourism, and also showcases how eco-tourism has provided viable means of livelihood to the natives.
Entry to the screening is free. Please contact Sumanaspati Reddy at 94412-39802, Goethe-Zentrum at 6552-6443, or Alliance Francaise at 2770-0734/2770-0736 for further details.
