Nazim Hiqmat Ki Prem Kavitayein, being staged at Chitramayee, is an experimental play based on contemporary Turkish poet Nazim Hiqmat's life experiences. The talented Asima Bhatt (an NSD alumnae) is the play's creator, director and actor all rolled into one. Her latest piece of work sees her in yet another solo performance.
In this particular play, Bhatt borrows vastly from Hiqmat's repetoire, focussing on the revolutionary character of his poetry. For the playwright, the reference point is this poet's longstanding conflict, as a Marxist radical, with tyrannical political nations. Hiqmat was imprisoned repeatedly, but never lost the desire to live and fight.
Bhatt wishes to convey a simple truth - that people can survive the toughest boulders thrown at them
and come out unscathed. The venue for the play is Chitramayee, State Gallery Of Fine Arts, and it commences at 6:30pm.
