The Mechanical Engineering Department of Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology is organising Mechanica '08, a national-level symposium, on 18th & 19th March, at the college's campus in Gandipet. The 2-day technical festival will have several formal and informal events, such as:

Formals

Paper Presentation

Hovercraft
Build a wireless remote-controlled hovercraft which travels an L-shaped race track in fastest time.

Step Climber
The task is to design a robot and make it climb up a set of stairs and thereafter climb down using a different set of stairs of different heights in the shortest possible time.

Robot War
The game is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the robots have to complete a preliminary task, to establish their capability as a good opponent. After the finish of the stipulated 2 minutes for the first stage, they are free to attack each other in the second stage. In this stage, they should throw the opponent's robot into the pond of death or out of the arena.

Robo Athelet
Race your robot against time overcoming the hurdles.

Robo Soccer
The main objective is to play normal soccer with the help of a robot. To accomplish this task, the robot should have a mechanism to shoot the ball. It should hit the ball towards the goalpost rather than merely dragging it.

Solid Modelling
The participants will be given a problem statement and they will be asked to make a model using the design software. The problem will be described on the day of the event.

Sheet Modelling
To create a model from the given problem statement. This contest will test the participant's basics of working with tools and equipment available in a workshop.

Working Model Presentation
Bring theories to life and display the concept to a host of curious onlookers. Any model apart from those already mentioned in the other events can be displayed.

Informals

Go-Karting
This real action racing event will be held at the Treasure Island. This event is divided into three rounds. Prizes worth Rs. 22,500 are waiting to be won. First prize Rs. 10,000, second prize Rs. 7,500 and third prize Rs. 5,000.

3-Men basketball
3 members in a team are required to show their talent of putting a basket to make their team win.

Forensic
This game requires two participants for a team. You will be Sherlock Holmes in solving a mystery, and also be on the hunt for the hidden treasure while you are investigating.

Pack-N-Drop
Optimum utilization of the resources is the mantra here. There are two rounds and two participants - one for each round. In round one, you need to pack the fragile object with the given limited material and see to it that the object is well protected from any fall. In round two, the competitors are required to catch the fragile objects thrown from a particular height without damaging them.

Mr & Ms Mechanica
Dress in metal, be mechanical, show glamour, and be yourself for grabbing it.

Technical Quiz
Two participants per team. Put in all your general and subject knowledge to win the title.
