Lyon, 1952, Lena (Isabelle Huppert) a middle class housewife, is bored with her life and with her husband Michel (Guy Marchand) whom she met in a camp during the war and with whom she has two daughters. She meets Madeleine (Miou-Miou), an attractive, easy-going young woman who is fed up with her whimsical husband Costa (Jean-Pierre Bacri), an actor with whom she has a child. Their increasing friendship irks Michel. Madeleine moves to Paris and asks Lena to join her. After a fight, Lena abandons her husband.
No ambiguity in this friendship which is , first of all, a liberation, both women needing to escape from their monotony. Accurate observations, tidy direction, good historical reconstitution, remarkable actresses ... A particularly interesting film. [Claude Bouniq-Mercier]
