On the occasion of its 29th anniversary, Kinnera Art Theatres is organising 29 days of Telugu stage dramas from different parts of the state, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, from 9th November to 7th December. As part of the 18th day of celebrations, Kurukshetram is being staged today.
Kurukshetra is a place in Haryana where the great battle of Mahabharata between the Pandavas and the Kauravas was fought for 18 days. The war claimed the lives of all the 100 sons of Dhritarashtra, and many other warriors like Bheeshma, Drona, Karna, Abhimanyu, Drupada and Ghatotkacha.
This play will be staged today by Kinnera, with many movie and theater actors playing different roles in the 5-hour long marathon. A Koteshwar Rao, Gummadi Gopalakrishna, Venkateshwar Rao, Uppalapati Saidulu and P S Naidu will all play the character of Lord Krishna, Kramadati Sarma and Gopala Rao will enact Dharmaraju (Yudhishtra), Salvachary will play Bheeshma, Kuruti Satyam Naidu will play Arjuna, B Kanakambram will play Ashwaddhama and Jamunarani will play Draupadi.
P J Sarma, P L Sarma, K Subrahmanya Sastry, A Sundararama Krishna, P V N Krishna, E S R Murthy, Malladi Gopalakrishna, Malladi Bhaskar, Malladi Venkataramana, Jandyala Subbalakshmi, and E Srimannarayana Murthy are the other actors.
Kinnera Art Theatres was started in 1977, and has since organised various programs, including musical nites, classical dances and vocals, felicitations and releases of books. It has served as a platform for many upcoming artistes, and has at the same time provided recognition and appreciation for established ones. Dr R Prabhakar Rao, IPS, is the chairman of the association, while M Raghuram is its dedicated secretary.
