On the first day of the Kuchipudi Fest being organised by the Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University, Dr. Alekhya Punjala Brundam and students of the Sri Siddhendra Yogi Kuchipudi Kalapeetham are performing on 2nd December, at Ravindra Bharati. The performance will start at 6:30pm.
Students of the Sri Siddhendra Yogi Kuchipudi Kalapeetham from the Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University in Kuchipudi (Krishna district) will be performing the Purva Rangam. Alekhya Punjala will then perform Lakumaasvaantham, a form of Kuchipudi.
Alekhya Punjala had her initial training in Kuchipudi under the tutelage of late Dayal Sharan, and later she learnt from K Uma Rama Rao at Lasya Priya. She is also trained in Bharatanatyam.
Alekhya has performed in various prestigious arts events including at the Khajuraho, Swami Haridas Samaroh, Kalidas Samaroh, Yuva Utsavs in Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad and the Kuchipudi Festival organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi in New Delhi. She has performed in USA, UK, Syria, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Qatar, Lebanon, Bahrain and Cyprus. She has also conducted several lectures and demonstrations, and has presented papers at seminars and conferences.
Alekhya received the Ugadi Visisht Puraskar 2002 from the Government of Andhra Pradesh, as well as the Hamsa Award. She is currently pursuing her Ph. D in the Padams of Kshetrayya and his contribution to Telugu Culture, and is also teaching Kuchipudi as an associate professor in the Department of Dance at Potti Sriramulu Telugu University.
