To felicitate exponents of the Kuchipudi art form, an awards function is being hosted at Ravindra Bharati as a part of the Kuchipudi Festival organised by the Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University, on 2nd December. The function will begin at 5:30pm.
The evening will begin with the inauguration ceremony by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, K Rosaiah. He will present the Visheta Puraskarotsavam to Dr. B Rajinikanta Rao and the Sri Siddhendra Yogi Nartana Puraskaram to Padmabhushans Raja and Radha Reddy. The guests of honor for the program will be D Sridhar Babu, Dr. J Geeta Reddy, Acharya A Bhumayya, M Buddha Prasad (ex-minister) and Jyanthi Kastuvar from Sangeeta Natak Academy (New Delhi).
Siddhendra Yogi was an exceptional scholar and artist of the 14th century AD, instrumental in establishing the art of Kuchipudi. He adopted the then existing format of the Yakshagna folk dance dramas, and gave it a new form. Among his celebrated works is the famous play "Bhamakalapam".
The idea of the fest is to encourage those who are trying to make a name for themselves and honor those who already have done so. Also, veteran Gurus will be felicitated for their contribution in Kuchipudi's evolution. Seminars and demonstrations on December 3 and 4 will see Kuchipudi experts and scholars talk about classical and folk traditions within Kuchipudi, as well as current experimental attempts across the world. Some dance forms will be demostrated as well.
