Creating the images of a lion, peacock or lotus with the bare feet while performing Kuchipudi, using the colors placed on the ground... sounds amazing, doesn't it? It is quite possible with lots of concentration and rigorous practice, say the disciples of Voleti Rangamani.
Traditionally called Devalaya Natyalu (temple dances), these dances were famous in the days when the Rajas and the Maharajas thrived. In Hyderabad they have just started gaining momentum, owing to tireless hard work by Rangamani. Daughter of an internationally acclaimed Kuchipudi dance guru and researcher of these kinds of dances, the late C R Acharya, Rangamani is organizing this program with the performers being her students Santi, Ramanujam, and Shilpa.
So if you are an art lover and are sadly fed up with the routine, then here comes a performance with a fresh feel, one that can actually succeed in giving your sagging spirits a lift, however momentarily.
The Minister for Culture, Dr N Sivaprasad, will be the chief guest for this event. Please contact Rangamani at 441-1931 for details.
