Most people never need much persuasion to watch any version of this. Tonite, they have to compete with even the dance connoissuers for invites, given who's on stage.
Yuvakalavahini, with support from Mount Opera, is presenting a Kuchipudi dance ballet Kamasutra, by Swati Somnath and group, on 31st May, at the Ravindra Bharathi hall. This ballet was performed at this venue during May 2005 and was applauded by connoisseurs of dance and critics alike.
The recital will be supported by Pasumarti Seshubabu with the nattuvangam, Amalapuram Kanna Rao and Sirisha with vocals, Bhanuprasad on the mridangam, Murali on the flute, Pasumarti Phanibala on the violin, Sudarshan with the make-up, and Surabhi Chandrasekhar with the sets & lighting. Swati Somnath, Tenali Seshubabu, H Srinivas, Sai Deepika, Chinmayee, Bindiya, Sonam, Aishwarya and Gayathri will participate in this ballet, written by Vatsayana and choreographed by Swati Somnath.
On this occasion, Kuchipudi dance exponents Vedantam Veera Raghavaiah, Chinta Sita Ramanjaneyulu, Bhagavatula Rama Murty, Yeleswarapu Nageshwara Sarma and Pasumarti Venkateshwarulu will be felicitated.
Swati Somnath doesn't need an introduction to music and dance-loving Hyderabadis. She is amongst the best dancers of the country, and is known for her abhinayas, footwork and choreography. She has choreographed some very famous ballets like Sarvagna Shankara, Draupadi and the Kamasutra.
Somnath learnt under Sumathi Kaushal, and had her rangapravesam at Ravindra Bharathi in 1980. Since then, she has made her presence felt with some wonderful recitals around the country and the world. She practices both Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, although Kuchipudi is her personal favorite.
She was felicitated on a number of occasions, including with the distinguished Kala Ratna Award in 2006, and the Ugadi Puraskar and the International Woman Of The Year Award by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, apart from Nritya Kaushal from Late Dr. Channa Reddy and Best Kuchipudi Dancer from the Vice President Of India. Her academy Nritya Bharati, in West Marredpally, trains youngsters in Kuchipudi, Bharatnatyam and Carnatic music.
