From his maiden album, The Unforgettable and its soul-stirring number "Baat Niklegi To Phir Door Talak Jayegi " to his gazals for Mirza Ghalib, Jagjit Singh has made a steep uphill journey in terms of popularity and contributions to the gazal genre. The purists have often accused him of unrestrained experimentation with the art-form, but his listeners and patrons have only responded with mesmerised adoration.

Jagjit's deep voice is like the softest beanbag cradling your sensibilities, while the lyrics cull out your hearts deepest aches and aspirations and softly hum them.
