The Osmania University Centre for International Programmes (OUCIP) is organizing an international conference on ?New Directions in Indian Ocean Studies? from 26th to 28th February.
The conference is intended to bring together experts from disciplines varying from Archaeology, History, Science and Technology, International Relations, Economics, Literature and so on to share their expertise in the varied approaches to the study of Indian Ocean. The objective is to project the emerging concerns pertaining to environment, climate change, Diaspora, and accidents both natural and manmade and to focus on the new possibilities in the Indian Ocean Studies.
The conference will have the inaugural address by Ambassador Rajiv K. Bhatia, Director General, Indian Council of World Affairs, New Delhi and the keynote address by Dr. Susantha Goonatilake, President, Royal Asiatic Society, SriLanka. The others speakers include Prof. Soosilla Goapalu, Martuis, Prof. Chirstian Bouchard, Canada, Mr. Muntasir Mamun, High Commission, Bangaldesh,New Delhi, Prof. Rui Kohiyama, Japan, Chao Ren, USA. The Indian speakers include Mr. Uday Bhaskar, Mr. Mohan Guruswamy, Aparajita Biswas, Laxmi Subaramanian, R. S. Sharma, Sachi Mohanty and others, according to an OU press release.
