The Hyderabad Sailing Week is being organised from 23rd July to 1st of August, to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Laser Class Association of India and Laser National Sailing Championship. The week-long celebrations will feature performances by military bands, a symphony orchestra by the Air Warrior Symphony Orchestra, a rifle drill display by the Air Warrior Drill Team, and a Green Brigade Walk, in addition to the races.
36 races in the Standard, Radial and 4.7 rigs will be conducted during the Sailing Week, this time dubbed the Lake Festival. There are 2 sessions each day - morning and afternoon. 2-time Asian Games bronze medallist Rajesh Choudhary, and Alekya Sundaram (who participated in the recently held Women's World Championship in Scotland), B K Rout, Jasveer Singh, Gajender and Rohini Rau will be among the 110 entrants for the championships.
The participation will also feature 18 teams from 10 clubs, including the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC) at Mumbai and Visakhapatnam, the Army Yachting Node (Mumbai), the Royal Bombay Yacht Club, the Yacht of Pune, the Artillery Water Sports Association, the EME Sailing Association, the Vizag Sailing Club and the National Sailing School.
Assembly Speaker N Kiran Kumar Reddy will inaugurate the championships at the Secunderabad Sailing Club at 11am on 23rd July, while Chief Minister K Rosaiah will distribute the prizes on 31st July. Sports Minister Komatireddy Venkatreddy will be the guest of honour at the closing ceremony, and Laser Classic Association Of India president Lt. General I J Singh will preside over the function.
