For now, the tweets are for real. Spot your winged friends and win the points you never did back in zoology class.
The Bird Watchers' Society Of Andhra Pradesh (BSAP), in association with HSBC, will be organising the 3rd edition of 'Bird Race', here on December 13. The Bird Race has been a signature event of HSBC since its start in 2007 to create awareness about nature.
The race is aimed at generating awareness among people about the bird life in and around the region of the twin cities, as well as gaining support for the conservation of nature and the environment.
The Bird Race is a bird-spotting event. Teams will be flagged off at 6am, marking the start of the race, and they have to report back by 6pm. Each team will be given a log book containing a list of birds found within a radius of 50-60 kilometres around the city, and the places and possible locations they can be found. Once you spot a species, you must tick it off the log book, which should be surrendered to the judges in the evening for their scrutiny.
The event is on from dawn to dusk, with the criterion for judgement being the maximum number of birds spotted by a team. Each team will consist of 4 members. Participants will have to bring their own cars or bikes, and those without vehicles will be accomodated in other teams.
Each car will have a captain who is familiar with the geography of Hyderabad, and is reasonably knowledgeable in bird identification. Those who are not familiar with bird-watching, too, can take part.
You will be provided breakfast hampers in the morning, as well as dinner at the end of the event, but you are required to carry your own lunch, water, snacks, binoculars and field guides.
The last date for registration is December 10. Please contact Shanti Mani at 93910-08302 or Sushil Kapadia at 93933-19333 for further details.
