Gurukuls couldn't have been much different from this. The children have to pass a certain test to be allowed as a sishya, and then there is no fee - all that is required is devotion and a love for learning. Pity, then, that this only teaches music.
The Little Musicians Academy was started 2 years back by K Ramachary and inaugurated by S P Balasubrahmaniam. As it enters its 3rd year now, it has 50 students, ranging from 3 to 13 years in age.
Like we said, the most remarkable part about the Little Musicians Academy is that it is for free. The kids just need to have the right sruti and tala, says Ramachary, singer and music composer himself.
The occasion of the 2nd anniversary will see the kids sing film songs and enjoy themselves. Also featuring will be mimicry and dances, but the film songs will dominate. Brother Prabhakar Reddy, the principal of All Saints High School, will preside. The evening is also likely to see the felicitation of M R Ashalata and M K Ramu, the founders of Rasamayi.
