Gulf Oil Corporation India Ltd., which staged the Gulf Dirt Track Challenge in 2003 and 2004, and Gulf Dirt Track National Championship in 2005, 2006 and 2007, has again come forward to give 2-wheeler racing fanatics a chance to show off their skills in a safe and competitive environment. Sportscraft will conduct the competition, which promises to be tougher, with more prize-money.
Dirt track racing is all about riding at high speed on a specially laid-out winding track, which is mostly slushy and gravel-laden. The rider has to negotiate serpentine bends while doing several laps, and is timed to the hundredth of a second. The sandy surface makes riding extremely dicey. Pramod Joshua was the star performer in the first round of the Gulf Cup Dirt Track racing that was held in Jaipur earlier this year.
The 3rd round of the series will be prganized in December in Nashik, followed by the Final Round - Clash Of The Titans, in February 2010, at TBA.
