The Qadir Ali Baig Foundation is organizing its annual Theatre Festival from the 27th October, which will continue till 12th November, at multiple venues. Plays will be staged at 7:30pm daily.
The festival showcases some of the best of Indian and international theatre, featuring productions and performers of international repute. Naseeruddin Shah, Alyque Padamsee, Satish Alekar, Mohan Agashe, Sharon Prabhakar, Usha Ganguli, Mohammad Ali Baig, R Nageshwar Rao, Victoria Hauke and Olaf Reinecke (from Hamburg, Germany) are all part of the event.
This is the third time the festival is being held, and it has moved on from an 8-day event last year to a 10-day schedule this year, and will feature 175 artists performing at 3 venues in 6 languages. This theatre extravaganza offers a bouquet of genres - storytelling, musical comedy, period drama, slapstick, tragedy, mythology, social satire and dance drama - in Urdu, English, Hindi, Telugu, Marathi and even German. The schedule of the festival is as follows:
27th Oct: 'Katha Collage' by Naseeruddin Shah - at HICC

29th Oct: 'Mahim Junction' by Sohaila Kapur - at HICC
6th Nov: 'Resham Ki Dor' by Mohammad Ali Baig - at Ravindra Bharati
7th Nov: 'Life, Love And Other Madness' by Alyque Padamsee - at Ravindra Bharati
8th Nov: 'Chehre' by Usha Ganguli - at Ravindra Bharati
9th Nov: 'Maya Bazaar' by Surabhi Theatre - at Lalitha Kala Thoranam
10th Nov: 'Begam Barve' by Satish Alekar - at Ravindra Bharati
11th Nov: 'Bimari Ki Khumari', an adaptation from Moliere - at Ravindra Bharati
12th Nov: 'Else' by Hauke and Reinecke from Germany - at Ravindra Bharati
The event will also see 2 workshops being conducted - one on dance theatre, by Victoria Hauke (from Germany), and one on Shakespearean theatre, by Alyque Padamsee.
The festival is a tribute to the Hindustani theatre personality, the late Qadir Ali Baig. It forms a part of the Foundation's initiative to revive theatre in town, and was designed by Mohammad Ali Baig, son of Qadir Ali Baig. The German Ministry of Culture, Goethe-Zentrum, Alliance Francaise and Seagram 100 Pipers are all associated with the festival.
