Following the tremendous success of the 2009-10 event that culminated with the Clash of Titans, Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd. has again renewed its commitment to motorsports by organising the Dirt Track racing in association with Sportscraft, the Hyderabad Motorsport body and FMSCI.
This dirt track racing extravaganza offers two-wheeler riders a chance to show off their talents in a competitive environment. The event kicks off with the first of three legs on 4th and 5th December at NTR stadium in Hyderabad.
Dirt Track racing is all about high speed with mass start. Riders race round a serpentine, gravel-laden track, which has slush in some areas, while many take a tumble or two around the sharp bends as they look to generate speed. Only the best of both bikes and riders survive this test of man and machine.
Leading riders and bike manufacturers have shown interest in the event, and are likely to participate. Pramod Joshua, Arvind K P, N K Pradeep, R Prakash, Jatin Jain, Afzal N N, Maninder Singh, A Anand, K Yashasvi and Shamim Khan will be the ones to watch out for. Last year, TVS riders hogged the limelight, but with other leading companies likely to be in the fray, this year's contest will have a stiffer challenge.
To be eligible to participate in the Clash of Titans, riders must compete in at least 2 of the 3 rounds of the event. A maximum 15 and minimum 6 riders will be selected from the 3 qualifying rounds based on their overall performance. It is pre-conditioned that the rider should have taken the start, and be a finisher in at least 2 of the 3 rounds to qualify for Gulf Cup Dirt Track Racing - Clash of Titans.
The second round is scheduled for 8th and 9th of January, while the dates for the other rounds will be intimated shortly. As the second round is in the first week of January, participants are requested to apply for new FMSCI license immediately after the Hyderabad leg.
2 special local classes for Andhra Pradesh state is set for motorcycles up to 165cc 2 stroke Group C and motorcycles up to 165cc 4 stroke Group C. The main event is on 5th December at 9 am, but participants have to report on 4th December for briefing and other formalities.
