On the occasion of the 164th birth anniversary of saint Thyagaraja, as well as the 34th anniversary of the samithi, Vignana Samithi is organising its annual Thyagaraja Aradhana Music Festival from 24th to 30th January at the Anand Nagar Community Hall, Khairatabad.
On 28th January, Emani Lalitha Krishna will present a gotu vadyam recital at 6pm. She will supported by K Sai Kumar on the violin and K Srinivas on the mridangam.
Lalita Krishna received her training in playing the veena from her mother Lakshmisuramma Somayajulu initially, and later from veteran violin vidwan Annavarapu Ramaswami. Influenced by Ravi Kiran's vichitra veena, she altered her veena to a vichitra veena, and thereon trained with the instrument under the tutelage of Ravi Kiran in Chennai.
Lalitha today has the distinction of being the only gottu vadyam player in Andhra Pradesh. She is also proficient on the mandolin, and is an A-grade veena artiste of the All India Radio. She has performed at various temples and music sabhas in the state.
Vignana Samithi, which is in its 34th year of existence, tries to propagate classical music by organising music concerts every month. It provides a platform for upcoming artistes by giving them opportunities to perform, and at the same time, gets senior artistes to perform and conduct workshops. Many senior artistes have performed for the organisation including Dr. Balamurali Krishna, the Malladi Brothers, the Hyderabad Brothers and Sankaranarayanan.
