The dulcet melodies of a flute come to you solo, unalloyed and pellucid, from the dextrous finger-work of one of India's few solo flute performers, Jayaprada Ramamurthy. The daughter of well known guru Prema Ramamurthy, she has received guidance from N. S. Srinivasan and N. Ramani. She is the co-founder of the UTTARAA Centre For Performing Arts, along with danseuse Geetha Ganesan. She was the first female flautist to play the “Base Flute (Long Flute)” and the “Western Key Flute” using shift in octaves.
She has toured the world-over, performed in front of many dignitaries such as the President Of India, and is, quite naturally, the recepient of many prestigious awards. Some of them are : Best Performer at the 'Spirit of Youth' festival, Chennai, T.R. Mahalingam Flute Endowment Award, Chennai, and Best Girl Flautist in Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad. Watch her on the 29th of January at 1700 hrs at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan. Entry is free for all those interested.
