Raga Vardhani Cultural Society is felicitating senior violin vidwan Annavarapu Ramaswamy with a gold medal on the occasion of his 82nd birth anniversary, on 22nd March, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. Before the felicitation program, there will be some Carnatic vocal kacheris by his disciples, as below:
6:00pm - Carnatic vocal by Kasturi Gopal Rao. Accompanists G Satish Babu on the violin and Phanibhushan on the mridangam.
6:30pm - Carnatic vocal by Janaki & Tulasi Vishwanath. Accompanists D Durga Bhavani on the violin and P Jaya Bhaskar on the mridangam.
7:00pm - Carnatic vocal by Modumudi Sudhakar. Accompanists P Nanda Kumar on the violin and M Laxminarayana Raju on the mridangam.
Annavarapu Ramaswamy was born on 23rd March, 1926. His brother late Annavarapu Gopalam was a mridangam and ghatam vidwan, and so music was a household pastime. Ramaswamy had his initial lessons under late Maganti Jagannatha Choudhury, and later on under Parupally Ramakrishnaiah Pantulu. He was an A-grade staff artiste of the All-India Radio, Vijayawada, from 1948 to 1986, before retiring.
Ramaswamy has performed many solo kacheris at many places in India and abroad. He has accompanied many renowned vocalists, such as Dr. Mangalampally Balamurali Krishna, late G N Balasubrahmanyam, late Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar.
The chief guest for the evening is Padmasri Dr. Mangalampally Balamurali Krishna, who will be felicitating the violin maestro. The other guests are Vice-Chancellor of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University Dr. A Manjulatha and Carnatic vocalist Dr. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana.
