In a singing career spanning 25 years and more than 6,000 performances, Vijayalakshmi's left few things unconquered. She's further reducing that list tonite.
Yuvakalavahini is felicitating light music singer Vijayalakshmi with the title of Swara Tarangini, on 20th June, at Ravindra Bharathi. A musical nite featuring old and new melodies will be organised by Vijayalakshmi and Ramachary.
Vijayalakshmi is a successful singer born in a family of classical musicians. Her father Ramakrishna Prasad and mother Suguna are classical singers, and after initially learning Carnatic vocal from her parents, she went on to learn from D Subbalakshmi. She also learned Hindustani vocal from Raza Ali Khan, the grandson on the great Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.
A very talented singer, she won the famous TV music contest Meri Awaaz Suno and finished runner-up in Zee TV's Saregama. In a singing career spanning 25 years and more than 6,000 performances, she has mastered light and film music, and ghazals in 8 Indian languages. She can also imitate and sing in 25 different voices of female singers. She has toured USA, UK and Malaysia atleast ten times each, in addition to Australia, the Middle-East and Canada.
In addition to her private stage performances, she has also rendered her voice for more 35 Telugu movies like Devadasu, Vikramarkudu, Aadilakshmi, Brahma, Chandrahas and Adbutha Deepam, Hindi movies like Sai Mahima and 48 Hours, and for yet to be released films like Viyyalavari Gayyali, Yamagola, Evadaina Sare and Tene Teegalu. She is known by various titles like Singing Star, Nightingale of AP and Melody Queen.
The chief guest for the evening is Padmabhushan and Gnanpeeth awardee Dr C Narayana Reddy, and the other guests are C C Reddy, cine producer and chairman of Visu Consultants; Andhra Pradesh Grandhyala Samithi chairman Kuchipudi Sambasiva Rao; and music director Koti.
