So now the Times of India has us pinned down as "Happening Highderabad". Fair enough, though we've been aware our hip status for a while now. TOI has put together a Cinema Festival, screening films that capture snapshots of Hyderabad. That must be why the newspaper is bellowing endlessly, "Hyderabad as the hero!"
The film festival kicks off with Shekhar Kammula's Dollar Dreams. A flick about six Hyderabadi youngsters, starting out in life and about the choices they make. Kammula attempts to figure out the grave attachment, the youth has, for the H-1 visa and green card. The tug-of-war between moolah and motherland is an eternal struggle. The movie is a sensitive portrayal of the complexities that arise in the lives of these six characters, as they clumsily imbibe the big American dream.
