The rendezvous between sea and land might just be in danger, landing their love-children - us - in trouble as well, say alarmists.
Goethe Zentrum Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Documentary Circle of Hyderabad and Alliance Francaise, is presenting Point Of View, its monthly discussion forum. This time, it is screening 2 documentary films - 'Hush Baby' and 'Coast Under Attack' - on 23rd January, at its premises.
Coast Under Attack is a 39-minute documentary film directed by Saraswati Kavula, and is about the issue of Special Economic Zones. It speaks of the Coastal Industrial Corridor coming up on the AP Coast, that is to be extended to the rest of Indian Coast. The state government is acquiring lands for Industrial Parks, Theme Parks, Mega Chemical complexes, and Pharma parks, green field airports, etc., split into several Special Economic Zones along the 972 sq kms of AP Coast. This could mean a loss of nearly 49 lakh acres of productive land.
The documentary focuses on the dangers to the coast and its people and the rest of the country by the indiscriminate industrialization and setting up of highly polluting industries in a major food-growing region of the country.
Entry to the screening is free. Please contact Goethe Zentrum at 6552-6443 / 2324-1791 or Alliance Francaise at 2770-0734 / 2770-0736 for further details.
