Kalasagaram, a cultural association based in Secunderabad, is organising a chamber music vocal recital by Ch Mahalakshmi, at the Kalasagaram Hall in West Marredpally, this Saturday. The recital is part of Kalasagaram's monthly program of classical music. She will be accompanied by Peri Thyagaraju on the violin and Vidyasagar on the mridangam.
Mahalakshmi, also a veena artiste, is a disciple of one of the famed Hyderabad Brothers, D Seshachari, for advanced training in Carnatic vocals. She learnt veena initially at Visakhapatnam, and then Carnatic vocals from T V Gopalakrishnan in Chennai. She is a graded artiste of the All-India Radio in both veena and vocals. In addition to her performances in the twin cities, she has also performed in Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Tiruannamalai and Kakinada.
Kalasagaram is a South-Indian cultural association situated in the East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years. The concerts are always held in the Keyes High School campus at the open-air theater. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes, and quite competent. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
