Chakra '08 - Technical Fest Of Vasavi: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR CHAKRA '08 - TECHNICAL...

The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Vasavi College of Engineering is organising Chakra '08, a national-level technical symposium, on 12th & 13th March, at the college's campus in Ibrahimbagh, Gandipet Road. It is a platform for budding mechanical engineers to get exposed to contemporary expertise in the field. Various technical events have been lined up for the 2 days of the fest:

Paper Presentation
On any topic related to mechanical engineering, management & business. Particiants are welcome from all branches.

Poster Presentation
Play with paper and pictures to create a poster on a topic given on the spot. Either a newspaper or a magazine will be provided, and the participants have to use it for their poster.

Robo World
This event is a platform for exhibiting all robots that you might have fabricated till now. There is no specific task that is to be completed by the robot - the task for which the robots are fabricated need to be mentioned by the participants, and should be demonstated by your bot. The complexity of your robot wins you a place on the podium.

Working Models
Models right from 4-bar mechanisms and slider-cranks to mechanisms for working cars, ships etc. can be exhibited. The complexity and the technology used are the parameters to decide the winner.

Technical Quiz
Get set for an array of technical questions in the field of engineering.

Designing And Modelling
There are two rounds, prelims & finals. In the first round, the participants are provided with drawing sheets containing isometric views of a few components. They are required to draw the 3D models in a CAD software in the specified time limit.

The finalists will be provided with a design statement based on which they need to design the component and model it in the CAD software.

Robowarz
Build a nimble-fingered anthropomorphic mechanism with the requisite features to meet the conditions of the contest. The first round will be time based - if the teams can do it, they qualify. The further rounds will be rated on performances.

3D Model Gallery
This is a platform to exhibit CAD models of various mechanical components, done through UG, CATIA or PRO E.

Video Exhibitions
Exciting engineering videos will be displayed - like those of Discovery's Extreme Engineering, Robo Soccer and dancing robos - that show where the present day technology is.

Workshop
There will be a workshop on State Space on 11th March, by Prof. J V Subrahmanyam, Mechanical Department, Vasavi College Of Engineering.

Lectures
On 10th March between 11:00am and 12:00pm, there will be a lecture on the topic of Indian Manufacturing In A Global Perspective, by Vijay Mohan, DGM, Infotech.

On the same day, there will be another lecture from 1:30pm and 2:30pm on Latest Trends In Nano Technology, by Prof. S Ramana Murthy, Department of Physics, Osmania University.
