Raga Ragini arts is celebrating the 73rd birth anniversary of Telugu film actor Sobhan Babu, on 11th January.
The function will feature 'Rajuvayya Maharajuvayya', performances of songs from Sobhan Babu's films, by C Venkatachalam, C H Trinatha Rao, Vijaykumar, M V Ramanakumari and Rajani. J V Ramanamurthy, a veteran actor, who has also acted alongside Sobhan Babu in a number of films, will be felicitated at the event. The function will be graced by C Narayana Reddy, M Bharathi, D B Rao, Boppana Padma, K Prabhakar Reddy, R Syam Sunder, and Kala Venkata Deekshitulu.
Sobhan Babu was born on 14 January 1937, as Uppu Sobhana Chalapathi Rao, to a middle-class family in Chinna Nandigama (Krishna district). The son of Uppu Suryanarayana Rao, Babu completed his initial schooling in Kuntamukkula Mylavaram. He pursued his Intermediate in Vijayawada and finished his degree at the Andhra-Christian College in Guntur. Later, he studied law in Chennai, but discontinued it.
He made his film debut with 'Daivabalam', which was directed by Vasanthkumar Reddy, but 'Bhakta Sabari' was his first film to hit the screens. He received the Filmfare Award 4 times, the Nandi Award 5 times and the AP Cine Goers Award 8 times.
