He has 1,000 compositions at his fingertips. Hopefully, he won't sing all of them tonite. Then again, hopefully he will.

To commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary composer Sri Thyagaraja, Sangeeta Ksheeragaram is organising a Carnatic vocal recital by D V Mohana Krishna, on 22nd April, at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha in Chikkadpally. Krishna will sing some kritis of Shyama Sastry, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Thyagaraja during his 1-hour recital, with support from Kokonda Subrahmanya Sarma on the violin and Kalyana Raman on the mridangam.

Mohan Krishna is a blind vocalist and a prime disciple of Dr Mangalampally Bala Muralikrishna. He has done his Diploma in Music from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. He has composed about 6 audio CDs of Annamachara Keerthanas. He has travelled extensively in India and abroad, giving countless performances and drawing huge applause from audiences the world over.

He has been conferred upon various awards, like Gaana Sudhanidhi and Lalitha Sangeeta Visaradha. He is now into teaching music at his own institute, Raaga Vardhani, established in Nallakunta about 3 years ago.

With a husky voice, emotional gestures and effortless streams of swaras characterising his recitals, Mohana Krishna's mode of drawl in singing strikes deep into the hearts of the listeners. He is a staff artist at the All-India Radio, Hyderabad. He gained mastery over all the 72 Melakartas (scales) and 35 Talas (rhythms), both in Carnatic and in light classical music, apart from proficiency in rendering the compositions of the legendary music trinity Shyama Sastry, Thyagaraja and Muthuswamy Dikshitar. He also excels in singing his gurus' compositions, and has almost 1,000 compositions at his fingertips.

Sangeeta Ksheerasagaram was started by V Ananda Mohan, a disciple of Late Uppalapati Ankaiah, and he has been organizing classical music shows in memory of his guru. As a tribute to the legend, it promotes upcoming and established artists by inviting them to perform in these concerts.
