The Friends Bonsai Society (FBS) has announced a Bonsai Bonanza Exhibition to mark their 30th year. The two day expo will include a showcase on how to miniaturize a mature Bonsai tree by trimming, wiring and training them carefully in containers according to prescribed techniques. Founders of the FBS ? Jyothi and Nikunj Parek from Mumbai - will grace the inaugural.
A demo about "Penjing" will also be conducted. Penjing is a Chinese word where "Pen" stands for pot and "Jing" for scenery. This means creating a landscape in a tray or a pot using plants, rocks, water and figurines. The expo will also include the sale of Bonsai plants.
FBS was originally founded by Jyothi and Nikunj Parek in Mumbai in the year 1983. The couple studied the nature of the Bonsai plant and practised it intensively in Japan. Pushpa Jaywanth brought the society to Andhra Pradesh, having learnt the art from the Parek's. What started as a 10-member association now has more than 100 members. Besides training Bonsai lovers, the FBS has been conducting classes, workshops and demonstrations for enthusiasts by inviting international Bonsai masters to Hyderabad.
