Let loose your seat belts, and set upon a journey of divine dancing. Hyderabad Maanagar Tamil Sangam (the Tamil Association) as part of its get-together, is organising a Bharatanatyam solo by Purnima Ashok Kumar.
Purnima is an 18 year old student of Bharatanatyam under Guru Kalaimamani Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant, at Shankarananda Kalakshetra, for the past 10 years. She is a CCRT National Scholarship holder for Bharatanatyam, since 1997.
As a student of Shankarananda Kalakshetra, she has participated in various dance productions designed by Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant, the recent being Panchatantra, which was performed in various countries and received rave appreciation for the choreography.
She had her arangetram in October 2002 at the Ravindra Bharati in Hyderabad, in the auspicious presence of Dr Haripriya Rangarajan, the then first lady of Andhra Pradesh. This performance was highly applauded by the first lady. Since then, she has performed for the institution's various dance ballet productions at Pune, Konark, Leh, Delhi, Bhadrachalam and other places. She is, at present, a student in Bachelor of Science at St Francis College, Begumpet.
In this edition, she would be performing the Ganesa Vandana - Paramananda Narthana Ganapatim Upaasmahe, Shanmugapriya Varnam (Lalgudi composition on Lord Srinivasa as Protector Supreme), Padam in Kaapi and a Siva Ranjani Tillana in kandaekam taalam. Natuvangam will be by her guru, Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant.
Entry for this dance program is free. As Dr Jayant's programs are always crowd-pullers, we suggest you be there with your floor mats before-hand or you will end up perched on tree-tops or roof-tops. You can contact Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant, Founder-Director of Shankarananda Kalakshetra at 2354-2378, 2354-8384 for further details.
