Sarma's all set to make the Prucchakas feel like train wrecks! Watch the battle tonite.
The Andhra Pradesh State Cultural Council is presenting an Astavadhanam Recital By Dr Madugula Nagaphani Sarma, as a part of 'Avadhana Sapthaham', its programs honoring the legendary poets, the Kopparapu Brothers.
Avadhanam is a literary feat which involves concentration, resonance, command over poetic metres, creativity and wide scholarship. In Astavadhanam, the Avadhani (the scholar) takes on eight subjects posed by Prucchakas (subject scholars) at a time, while in Satavadhanam, he takes hundred subjects at a time.
Dr. Madugula Nagaphani Sarma will not use pen or paper to write down the querries of the Prucchakas, using his memory to not only recite all the questions and answers but also to identify the scholar who posed the questions. No Avadhani has ever attempted a feat of this magnitude before.
Sarma performed his first 'Astavadhanam' at the age of 14, and has now 500 Astavadhanams, and 15 Satavadhanams, in both Sanskrit & Telugu languages under his belt. He is also credit with performing 'Brihat Dwi Sahasravadhanam' in Telugu and Sanskrit.
The Prucchakas will include:
Acharya S V Rama Rao, Dr J Bapureddy, Dr Vaddepally Krishna, Acharya R Vasunandan, Acharya Ruknuddin, Dr Tenneti Sudha, Dr. J Chinnaiah and Rasagyasri.
The Chief Guest for the occasion will be K Prabhakar Reddy, IAS., Addl. Secretary to Chief Minister; and the event will be presided over by Acharya Sumati Narendra.
