Kavya Krishnan is performing her Bharatanatyam arangetram on 9th June, at the Ravindra Bharathi. A 2nd Inter (MPC) student of Narayana Junior College, Krishnan will start the evening with an alaripu, followed by a varnam in Naata Kuranji ragam, Jatiswaram in Rasanjali ragam, Krishna Nee Begane in Yamuna Kalyani ragam, a Guruvayurappan keertana, Annamacharya's Brahmamokkate in Bowli ragam, Tillana in Madhyamavathi ragam, and a Mangalam.
The orchestra for the recital will be provided by Rajeshwari Sainath with the nattuvangam, Sangeethakala with vocals, Srinivas on the mridangam, Chander Rao on the violin, Venkatesh on the flute and Srikanth on the tabla.
Kavya Krishnan is the daughter of Krishna Kumar, a BU Head of ABB, and Meera Krishnan. She started learning Bharatanatyam from the age of 9 under gurus in Kerala including Sateesh in Ernakulam, before coming under the tutelage of Rajeshwari Sainath in Hyderabad. She has been learning under Sainath for the last seven years, and has participated in various dance ballets of the institution.
Rajeshwari Sainath is a well-known dancer and the director of Srutilaya Kendra Natyalaya, a dance institute founded by her uncle and mentor Guru Karaikudi Mani, a percussionist par excellence. She has been performing for the last 30 years, and now spends most of her time teaching dance.
Known for her excellent choreography, Sainath is the flag-bearer of the Pandanallur style of Bharatanatyam. She has toured many countries and received wide appreciation for her performances. She is a recipient of a number of awards, Nritya Choodamani and Kalaimamani being the most prominent.
