This one is an example of true faith. This graded artist of the AIR used to sing for a living, and she now does it only for a healing. That of her deformed son.
Lakshmi worked for 15 years as a staff artist in the AIR. But then fate dealt a cruel blow, and her son, after once being treated successfully, was again prey to illness. Stunted growth and rickets made all doctors gave up. But the mother wouldn't. She turned to the Lord for help, and started singing for Annamacharya. And yes, the Lord did hear the pleas. The boy survived. Even the doctors admitted that what happened was miraculous.
But you gotta be extremely lucky for a total miracle. Lakshmi's son isn't totally cured. And Lakshmi keeps up the prayers. She sings Annamacharya Keerthanas prolifically, mostly in temples. And this is now a passion with her. She's done 72 concerts now, and has recorded 3 cassettes of 10 songs each. But that is far from her goal. She has targeted 1,116 sankeerthanas.
This evening will see 90 minutes of Annamacharya Keerthanas, with Vijayanarayanan accompanying her on the Veena, Ammula Satyavati on the violin, J Dattatreyulu on the flute and B V Ramanamurthy on the tabla. The commentator will be P L N Prasad, a Ph D in Annamacharya Sangeetham.
