With Amu, Konkona succeeds in making it to the page 1.
Moving Images, a film lovers' club, is presenting the first time screening of Amu, in Hyderabad. Starring Konkona Sen Sharma, and directed by Shonali Bose, Amu has been adjudged the Best Feature Film in English, at the National Awards, 2005.
The movie will be screened at Prasad Imax (screen 1), on Sunday August 14th, at 8:30am. The film is of 1 hour 40 mins duration. The L.A. based director - producer Shonali Bose will be present, and she will answer audience's questions after the show.
The movie narrates the story of Kajori Roy (Konkona Sen Sharma), a young Indian-American who returns to the land of her birth to search for her personal and cultural origins. As an adopted child and immigrant, Kaju sets forth on a quest to find out who she is. Through her story, the film recounts the 1984 Delhi riots in the wake of the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and explores the nature of diasporic Indian identity, while unfolding an array of personal histories and relationships.
Amu is the first full-length feature film directed by Shonali Bose, who lives in Los Angeles, and who was trained in film at the University Of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Bose has made the award winning documentary, Lifting The Veil (1997), which traced the early effects of globalization in India. Her other award-winning films include Undocumented (1995), on the institutionalized racism faced by the immigrants to the United States; and The Gendarme Is Here (1993), which takes a bold stand against the US blockade of Cuba.
Entrance is by donor pass (Rs. 100). Passes will be available at Fabindia, Road No. 9, Banjara Hills, and at Planet M outlets at Punjagutta, Hyderabad Central, MPM Mall and Abids, from the 11th of August. Passes will also be available the venue on the 14th morning.
