Not everything that belongs to Egypt is embalmed with salts and perfumes and bandaged in swathes of cloth. Ahala shall demonstrate.
Submerge, in association with Tuborg, is presenting The Rising Sun album tour of the Egyptian duo Aly and Fila, on 12th August, at Ahala. They will be playing some of the tracks from the album.
Aly Amr Fathalah (Aly) and Fadi Wassef Naguib (Fila) were both born in 1981, and have known each other since kindergarten. After falling in love with the music of Paul Van Dyk, Steve Helstrip and Chicane, they built their first small studio and started deejaying from 1999.
In 2002, they signed with the German record label, Euphonic Records. Their first release, "Eye of Horus" received airplay from the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren and DJ Tiesto. The track was licensed to Fundamental Recordings in Holland, and reached number 4 on Dutch Dance charts.
After finishing their contract with Euphonic Records, Fila met with Andy Prinz, and they decided to launch their first sub-label, Offshore. Upcoming Egyptian releases would soon follow. Their first release through Offshore Music Switzerland / AP Pro Audio "Spirit of Ka" made it on several playlists.
The duo played alongside Armin Van Buuren in A State of Trance episode 300 and A State of Trance episode 350. They were voted on DJ Mag as one of the top 100 DJs in the world, twice. They ended the year 2007 as number 111, and in 2008, on the 31st position on the list, and at 22nd in 2009.
The duo have recently opened a new record label, which has signed up DJs such as Sean Tyas, Akesson and Neptune Project.
