Featuring Mansour, Kadou and Mao singing in Wolof, Fula, Mandinka. Have a happy African-music-appreciation evening.
Alliance Francaise Hyderabad, in collaboration with Novotel and Seagrams, is presenting an African Hip Hop music evening by the BBC Sound System, on 19th March. The concert will be held at the Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre in Madhapur.
The band is on a 12-city tour of India, and is a 3-member piece, with Mansour, Kadou and Mao. Dealing with the "ragamuffin" style of music, BBC Sound System brings with it African influences in the form of music from its mother land Senegal.
The band may be considered a symbol of the multi-cultural, multi-lingual traditions that exist in France. It explores African melodies like Tassou (the origin of hip hop music) mixed with hip hop, soul and even salsa rhythms.
The band is based in Paris, and released its first album 'Thioukouly' in 1998. BBC Sound System uses Wolof, Fula, Mandinka, French and English in their lyrics. Their music is about present-day youth, love, friendship and unity of people.
Entry is through invites available at the Alliance Francaise office in West Marredpally. Please contact 2770-0734 / 2770-0736 for further details.
