The Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad is organizing a performance by an Indian classical guitarist and a French flautist this weekend. Titled Summer Duo, the pair's concert is on at Taj Banjara on 23rd August, at 6:30pm.
Apart from a classical musical performance, the concert will exemplify the art of mixing cultures and talent, in a musical way. The artists are awarded musicians, and their performance will feature compositions of the renowned Argentine composers, Astor Piazzolla and Diego Pujol. The musicians have also been working on other pieces by JS Bach, Jacques Ibert, Paul Desmond and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Besides the fact that Piazzolla is one of their favourite composers, he is one of the few who has written music for the flute and the guitar, which explains Summer Duo’s affinity with Tango.
A flute professor in France, Yohann Egret has been playing with different groups, and as a soloist in different genres, ranging from classical to world music. Yohann is a gold medallist in flute, music theory, and chamber music, at the National Conservatory of Toulouse in 1998, and the first prize winner in the flute at the National Conservatory of Versailles.
Shyamant Behal began playing the classical guitar at the age of 14, and has performed regularly at concerts organised by the Delhi School of Music. Behal continued his studies under Genevieve Chant at the Ecole Normale de Musique of Paris and received a Diplome d’Execution with felicitations from the jury at the end of his studies. Since his return to Delhi in 2007, he has given a number of concerts in New Delhi, both as a soloist, and with ensembles. He has also formed a guitar quartet with some of his students.
Yohann Egret and Shyamant Behal met in the Indian capital in late 2008, and decided to form the Summer Duo, which will now present Western classical music with a Latin touch, this Sunday.
