It's as hard not to have heard the Ramayana as not to have heard of Ananda Shankar Jayant. And it's hard to find them both in the same place. So don't miss this. Amen.
Thyagaraja Ramayanam is an ekaharya, wherein the story of Sri Rama, as visualized by Thyagaraja, is portrayed in two parts - from the birth of Rama to Rama's wedlock with Sita, and from Bharata's search for Rama to the final coronation of Sri Rama in Ayodhya.
As part of 28th anniversary of Kinnera Art Theaters, Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant, along with her disciples, will be enacting her own choreographed form of Thyagaraja Ramayanam to the audience of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. A choreographer who needs no introduction, Ananda has directed and presented six path-breaking dance ballets including Sri Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum, Buddham Saranam Gachchami and Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Among her innumerous collection of awards, the prestigious Kalaimamani award of the Tamil Nadu government in Nov 2003, for her contributions as a Bharata Natyam dancer, ranks foremost. In spite of being a native of Tamil Nadu, Ananda chose to make Hyderabad her homeland, and can speak Telugu with much ease as her mother tongue Tamil. She is the director and architect of the famous dance academy Shankarananda Kalakshetra.
