Goethe-Zentrum, Hyderabad, in association with Alliance Francaise, Hyderabad, and Ministry of Culture and Media Hamburg - BKM, and in collaboration with Birla Science Centre, is presenting "Meeting With You And Me", an intercultural dance performance by Dr. Alekhya Punjala and Victoria Hauke on 5th March at the Bhaskara Auditorium, Birla Science Centre.
Dr. Alekhya Punjala from Hyderabad and Victoria Hauke from Hamburg have been working together for the past few weeks to bring together a unique dance performance where Germany's contemporary dance and India's classical dance are the protagonists.
"Meeting With You And Me" picks up on the personal interests of the 2 choreographers, in their particular tradition and period of dance/performance. Talking and moving, they touch subjects of daily practice, of choice of content, and of artistic & aesthetic approaches of their work. Their movement performance becomes the vehicle of handling their cultural differences. As well as for the audience, it opens a space of experience between them to dive in with the senses rather than with the mind, when it comes to the delicate thoughts of cultural globalisation.
Each of the dancers is supported by their original sounds. Alekhya Punjala is accompanied by her Indian musicians, whereas Victoria Hauke is operating with electronic sounds and sound systems created by the German musician Andreas Otto.
Victoria Hauke works as a freelance choreographer/dancer, based in Hamburg. After her dance education in New York, including studies in contemporary dance, release techniques, ballet, yoga, voice and tai chi, she has worked with numerous choreographers and theatre directors in the USA, Europe and China.
Dr. Alekhya Punjala had her initial training in Kuchipudi under the tutelage of the late Dayal Sharan, and later she learnt from Dr. K Uma Rama Rao at Lasya Priya. She is also trained in Bharatanatyam.
Alekhya has performed at various prestigious arts events including Swami Haridas Samaroh, Kalidas Samaroh, Yuva Utsavs in Bhubaneswar and Hyderabad, and the Kuchipudi Festival organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi in New Delhi. She has performed in the USA, UK, Syria, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat, Qatar, Lebanon, Bahrain and Cyprus. She has also conducted several lectures and demonstrations, and has presented papers at seminars and conferences.
