In order to raise funds for their various activities, Mitr Foundation is staging a play, Double Deal, on 20th December, at the Shilpakala Vedika. The play is directed by Mahesh Dattani, produced by Ashwin Gidwani and has Mahesh Manjrekar and Achint Kaur in the main roles.
Double Deal, an adaptation of Killing Time by Richard Stockwell, starts with an encounter between Jeet and Rhea in a shopping mall. Rhea loses her purse, Jeet helps her pay her bills, and friendship develops. What starts off as an innocent encounter between strangers turns out to be a roller-coaster ride of deceit and betrayal. Crimes and misdemeanours of the past turn the present into an impossibly bizarre battle over money.
Mitr Foundation is a registered trust formed 5 years ago by a group of friends. Its objective is women's empowerment, mainly through educating girl children in the expectation that education would make them capable of financial independence, and consequently, less vulnerable to exploitation.
