What strikes you the most when someone mentions Karan Johar? Lavish sets apart, there's the question of sitting through a drama that never seems to end, at least for the next one-sixth of the day. But it's becoming increasingly clear that it's okay to tell a story in much less than one-sixth of a day - aspiring filmmakers, please note that audiences' attention spans are competing with that of a baby's.

Here's something on those lines - short running films by amateur directors at Short Film Festival at the Prasads Labs Preview Theatre, on 23rd August. Titled Cut It Short, the film festival will be on from 10am to 2pm.

Cinephiles Hyderabad, an online community of movie afficionados, is organizing the Short Film Festival, in association with Shamiana - a short film club from Mumbai. The festival will have screenings of short movies from international film festivals like Cannes, and also by some independent filmmakers from all over the country.

The event is organized into 3 segments - screening of short films by local amateur filmmakers (any language, non-English movies will have English sub-titles); interaction and discussion with movie personalities, some of them being Neelakanta, Ramana Gogula and Rahul Nambiar; and finally, the screening of short films from Cannes and other International film festivals.

Neelakanta, a national award winning director, is a Tollywood director who’s known for his expertise in screenplay and writing. His debut film, Show, won 2 national awards - one for the Best Screenplay, and the other for the Best Feature Film In Telugu. Post Show, he has directed movies Mr. Medhavi, Sadaa Mee Sevalo, Nandanavanam 120 KM, and Missamma.

Ramana Gogula is a software-engineer-turned-music-director, who has composed for Thammudu, Badri, Johnny, Yuvaraju. He has a production company called Green Mangoes and earlier this year, he has donned a new role as a Producer. Boni was the first film from his production company.

Rahul Nambiar is a creative director and visual effects supervisor, and the genius behind the visual effects in 2009's first blockbuster. His work in Chiranjeevi starrer, Anji even won him a National Award. His visual effects company, FireFly, has worked on several films, including Chatrapathi, Samba, Godavari and most recently, Magadheera.

Some of the films that will be featured in the last segment are Marry me, Little Terrorist, Silencer, Hotel Flirt, The Sharpener and the Kid, a Free Hugs video, and Epilogue Of A Friendship, all of which were screened at Cannes.

Cut It Short is an attempt to create a platform for film enthusiasts and aspiring filmmakers to interact with established movie professionals, and to share their passion with like-minded people.
