It takes guts to decide to charge money for a classical music concert. Or, a performer par excellence. It's only one of those two at tonite's SICA concert.
The South Indian Cultural Association (SICA) is organising its monthly program of Carnatic classical music at Ravindra Bharathi, on 14th May. Tonite, O S Thiyagarajan, a renowned vocalist from Chennai, will present some Carnatic keertanas. Mysore Srikanth on the violin and Trivandrum Balaji on the mridangam will provide the instrumental support for the recital.
Thiyagarajan was born at Thanjavur and is the son of Sangeetha Bhushanam O V Subramaniam. Besides from his father, he had his early training from Tiger Varadachariar and Tanjore Ponniah Pillai. His advanced training was under Lalgudi Jayaraman and T M Thyagarajan.
He works as an Accounts Officer in Shalimar Paints Ltd, Chennai. He is a senior vocalist of repute, besides being an ardent devotee of music. An A-grade artiste of the All-India Radio and of Doordarshan, he has been giving numerous concerts in India and abroad, that have been highly appreciated and relished.
