The Hindu is presenting a musical extravaganza Brazil! Brazil!, on 8th October, at the Shilpakala Vedika. Directed by Brazil! Brazil! The Show, it is divided into 4 portions namely: music & dance, Capoeira (an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, music, and dance), carnival, and football.
Brazil! Brazil! aims to introduce the Brazilian way of life in its full form. The firts 3 things that come to mind when thinking of Brazil are - carnival, Samba and football - these are the essence of Brazil. They bring us the ideas of Brazilian dance, music and football, with a laddish emphasis on the fighting origins of the dance Capoeira and on the importance of the beautiful game with gorgeous singers and dancers.
The band portrays the vibrant, dynamic culture of contemporary Brazil to the heart of people. They celebrate the country's rich cultural heritage - including music, visual arts, dance, literature, debates and food.
Brazil! Brazil! is about the celebration of the Brazilian way of life. The show explores the link between Capoeira, Samba, and football. The show also tells the story of how the origins of these cultural obsessions in Brazil stem from slavery, particularly in the North-Eastern Bahia region.
The skills needed for Capoeira, Samba and football are very similar. The word Ginga, which means dodging, is used in all 3 activities. While Capoeira and Samba were formed by slaves, Brazilian football was transformed by them into what it is today.
