Whoever says that classical arts are not being encouraged enough has got his
facts rather mixed up. Each month we discover half a dozen newer organizations
that do just this. Here's the latest.
Founded in the year 1999 by Dhanraj, the Sri Vaishnavi Art Theater has been
conducting Kuchipudi dance festivals very often under the banner of its subsidiary,
the Sri Vaishnavi Kuchipudi Nritya Kalaniketan. The aim of the organization,
says Dhanraj, is to promote art and encourage the talented amateur and senior
artists. And this year, it is giving its annual Ugadi Puraskar awards to some
renowned persons from the fields of dance, literature, painting, sculpture,
medicine, music and law. The names are yet to be finalized.
The function will start with a Kuchipudi dance ballet presented by Sethuram,
Sajini and group. The special guests for the occasion will be Bandaru Dattatreya,
Madugula Nagaphani Sharma and Law Minister Chandrasekhar.
