Zygo Scrabble's 9th National Word Fest For School Children

Zygo Scrabble, a charitable society, is conducting its 9th national level word fest for school children from 27th Dec, 08 to 30th Dec, 08 at its premises.

Zygo Scrabble was the first to introduce the game of Scrabble in a competitive tourney format in all major cities and some towns, and has also secured 2 seats for India in the World Scrabble Championship. Zygo Scrabble conducted the National Championships for adults, and was the first in the world to conduct a National Championship for school children. The current edition will feature, for the first time in India, an Inter-School Team Championship to be held on 27th & 28th Dec, 08. The individual events will be held on 29th & 30th Dec, 08.

For individual events, there will be 2 categories: children upto and including the 6th standard, will be in grade-I. Children from the 7th to the 10th standard will be in grade-II. Children will test themselves in Scrabble, Unjumble Tests, Public Speaking, Creative Writing, Puzzles, Language Test, Test Of Spatial Relationships, and Speltz.

The Zygo Scrabble Clubs have invited children from various cities and towns, based on their performance in the tourneys held so far. A special feature of the current edition is the participation of Srikar Raghavan of Mysore, who was the National Champion of Grade-I at the 2006 Nationals, without losing a single game. At the 2007 Nationals, too, he didn't lose a single game, and was the National Champion of Grade-II. He is the first Nationals Champion  to be specially permitted to partake in the fest in view of the absence of any platform for youth scrabble in India.

Children will be provided snacks, beverages and lunch. There is no entry fee. Besides being awarded ranks and prizes, some rank holders will be invited to a Zygo Youth Tourney to be held in Chennai in Jan, 09.

Children who could not compete in the local tourneys due to illness or exams, and desirous of a wild card entry, may contact Zygo Scrabble for participation.
