The Hyderabad Film Club, in collaboration with the Federation Of Film Societies Of India is presenting the South African Film Festival from the 21st to the 23rd February, at Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet. A total of 6 films will be screened during the 3-day festival.
'Yesterday' is the last film to be screened on the last day, at 7pm. Directed by Darrell James Roodt, the film has Leleti Khumalo as Yesterday, Kenneth Khambula as Yesterday's husband, Harriet Lenabe as the teacher, Lihle Mvelase as Beauty and Camilla Walker as the doctor.
Yesterday is a humane and inspiring drama, and the first film ever released internationally in the Zulu language. It is carried by the lead performance of Leleti Khualo as the eponymous heroine, who must struggle not only to raise her daughter amid difficult conditions in their rural village, but also with the tragic news that she is HIV positive. She decides that she will not succumb to the disease until her daughter starts going to school to get the education she never had.
