The South Indian Cultural Assocation (SICA), in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, is organising devotional & classical music concerts on 7th & 8th Dec '08. The concerts will be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Auditorium.
These concerts are being organised by SICA as part of their Golden Jubilee Celebrations. On the 1st day of the event, i.e. on 7th Dec, V Gangadhar will be performing a vocal recital of devotional songs. The performance will start at 6:30pm.
V Gangadhar, a popular play-back singer, learnt Carnatic music from eminent gurus, and is an 'A' Grade light music singer on AIR & Doordarshan. Apart from playback singing, he is a music director, and has also sung and dubbed for advertisement campaigns. He received the 'Nandi Award' for Best Singer, and for Music Director in 1995, and the Ugadi Puraskar in 2005 from the Delhi Telugu Academy.
He has given a number of devotional music performances all over India, and his performances in the US have earned him the title 'Gaana Thapasvi', which was confered by the Telugu Literary and Cultural Association of NewYork.
SICA was founded in 1959 by Dewan Bahadur Aramuda Iyengar, the Finance Minister of Hyderabad's Nizam and a great patron of Carnatic music. The association has since organised more than 1,000 concerts. It has served as a platform for several artistes, including U P Raju and Nagamani, Mandolin Srinivas and the Malladi Brothers. It conducts workshops, felicitates artistes, and provides both moral and financial support to upcoming artistes. Dr S Chakravarthy, IAS, former Chief Secretary to the Govt. of AP, is the current President of the association, and R Chakrapani is the General Secretary.
