Viper In The Fist - French Film By Philippe De Broca

The Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad, in association with the Hyderabad Film Club, is screening a French movie, Viper In The Fist (Vipere Au Poing), at Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet, on 9th February.



The film is co-scripted and directed by Philippe de Broca, and has Catherine Frot as Paule Rezeau, Jacques Villeret as Jacques Rezeau, Jules Sitruk as Jean Rezeau, William Touil as Ferdinand "Freddie" Rezeau and Cherie Lunghi as Miss Chilton. The story is based on a novel by Herve Bazin.



Jean and Freddie are brought up in a chateau, by their paternal grandmother. When she dies, their father returns from Vietnam with their mother and their young brother. Within days, their mother displays her true colors, and turns their life into hell.



The chilling nature of the maternal hatred leaves no room for maternal-child affection. What develops is open warfare on the mother's side, and guerrilla warfare on the part of the boys. The middle brother, Jean is particularly dedicated to opposing his mother's tyranny, and turns out to be good at it.
