Patriotism in action isn't as glamorous as it is in hindsight. Here's one of India's pre-Independence legends, brought alive on stage by Udaan.
Udaan is presenting a Marathi patriotic play "Veer Savarkar", on 16th January, at the Keshav Memorial Institute of Technology, Narayanguda.
Written by Saroj Gharipurikar and directed by Sunil Chandurkar, the play is based on Savarkar's book "Majhi Janmathep". Saurabh Gharipurikar plays the role of Savarkar and the rest of the cast includes Suhas Barve, Ashutosh Patwardhan, Tanvi Deshpande, Devashish and Mandar.
Veer Savarkar is a legendary freedom fighter, and founder of the Hindu Mahasabha, Abhinav Bharat Society and Free India Society. This play pays tribute to his unforgettable and significant efforts in India's freedom movement. The story is adapted from his book "Majhi Janmathep" ("My Life Sentence"), based on their Kalapani imprisonment.
Udaan, an organisation dedicated to theatre, was founded by Saurabh Gharipurikar in Hyderabad on 12th December 2001. It has 2 wings - Udaan Performing Arts and Udaan Education.
Udaan regularly organises various workshops for those interested in theatre. It has presented 4 workshop-oriented productions so far - April Fool, Freestyle Gawahi, Nithalle, and Waat Pahato Premachi. Its recent production was a result of the children's theatre workshop production, Handle With Care.
Entry is free for everyone. Please contact Sunil at 99080-37444 or Sourabh at 92900-13166 for further details.
