What they can do for Ugadi still constitutes some of the rites of passage for several Telugu women in interior AP. Here's Shilparamam throwing limelight where it is needed most in our urban jungle.
On the occasion of Ugadi, Shilparamam is organising various competitions for men, women, girls and boys from 17th to 20th March. The competitions will be held in the following disciplines:
Folk Songs
Competitions will be held in solo and group categories for men and women. The group should should not consist of more than 5 members. The musical instruments have to be procured by the participants themselves.
Folk Dances
This is open for boys and girls in the age group of 5 years to 12 years. Competitions will be held only in solo and duet categories. Make-up, costumes and musical instruments will have to be arranged for by the participants.
Ladies Special
On the 20th of March, ladies can participate in a special traditional games, such as Ugadi Pacchadi, Thoranala Alankarana and traditional fancy dresses. Ugadi Pacchadi has to be brought to the venue after being prepared at the participants' houses. Thoranala Alankarana will be held at the venue.
The preliminaries for the folk songs and dances will be held on 17th and 18th March, the semifinals will be on 19th March, and the finals will be held along with the Ladies Special competitions on 20th March, the grand festival day. There will be no preliminaries for Ladies Special. The last date for registrations is 16th March.
