Together, these four cool-cats pack enough punch in their music, to leave you feeling a little heady even when you drive home after the concert. Maybe you should get someone else to drop you safely! The agenda is to take you through a journey in time through Indian classical music, making detours to touch on Blues and Hawaian music as well. Triveni is the set of Pandit Debasheesh Bhattacharya, Tanmoy Bose, Jonas Hellborg and S. Shekhar.
Debasheesh Bhattacharya is the virtuoso who created the trinity of slide guitars. The Chaturangai, a 24 string hollow neck guitar, Gandharvi, a 14 string guitar with the longest glissandi, and Andandi, a 4 string slide Ukelele played at the end of the performance. He broached this territory, when already fascinated by slide guitars, he met Tau Moe , who introduced the Lap Steel Guitar in India.
He has performed with many world-reknowned artists such as John McLaughlin, Bob Brozman, Led Kapaana and Martin Simpson. And he has learnt from India's grandmasters such as Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Pandit Brij Bhushan Kabra.
Pandit Tanmoi Bose took his Talim from Late Kanai Dutta, and later became a Gandabandh Shagirdh of Pandit Shankar Ghosh. He has played in association with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar numerous times . He has played everywhere from The Royal Albert Hall to closer home at the Dover Lane Music Conference at Kolkatta. Obvious that he is considered one of the foremost names in the contemporary scenario of world music.
Jonas Hellborg is a Swedish rock guitarist, known for his flamboyance on the stage and his incredible command on the instrument. He is fast, daringly improvisational and had a unique slap technique, lead lines and a revolutionary chordal approach that greatly extends the potential of the instrument. His dominant influences have been Mc Coy Tyner, Colin Hodgkinson, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
Playing with John McLaughlin in the Mahavishnu Orchestra, he was greatly influenced by him and vice-versa .
S. Sekhar has been performing on the Mridangam for 39 years, and has been partner with many accomplished artists at concerts. They include Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Debashish Bhattacharya. He played the backgorund scores of movies of the Sri Satyajit Ray and late Sri Salil Chaudhary. While his concert tours keep happening the world over (USA, UK, Canada, Belgium, Barcelona), he has especially performed many Jugalbandis.
Famous among those are the ones with Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya on the Santoor, Pandit Ronu Majumdar on the flute, and Pandit Tejendra Majumdar on the Sarod.
Watch this group of four, aptly christened Triveni, meaning 'the confluence' in Sanskrit. If it doesn't stir up all your senses to a mighty climax, not many things will.
